Pharmacological properties

Acyclovir is an antiviral preparation  that is active against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 and herpes zoster virus. has a virostatic effect. inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA, without affecting the physiological processes in the cell.
The half-life in individuals with normal renal function is 2.9 hours after intravenous infusion. Acyclovir penetrates well into tissues, organs and biological fluids of the body: into the brain, kidneys, lungs, liver, muscles, spleen, uterus, vaginal mucosa, vaginal secretions, CSF and the contents of herpetic vesicles. 15.4% of acyclovir binds to plasma proteins. In healthy individuals, acyclovir is excreted mainly in the urine unchanged. Pharmacokinetics in children over the age of 1 year is similar to that in adults.

Indications

Infections caused by the herpes simplex virus: primary herpes of the genital organs, recurrent herpes of the genital organs, herpes encephalitis and generalized infections, herpes of the skin and mucous membranes in patients with immunodeficiency, herpes of newborns, other infections (herpes eczema, hepatitis, pneumonia, esophagitis), ...
Prevention of infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus: after bone marrow or kidney transplantation, with bone marrow aplasia after treatment with cytostatic preparations; recurrent genital herpes (with a frequency of 6 times a year or more); frequent recurrent infections in patients with normal immune status; infections in immunocompromised patients.
Infections caused by the Varicella zoster virus: chickenpox in immunocompromised patients; severe or lingering forms of chickenpox in patients with normal immune status; complications in chickenpox caused by the direct action of the Varicella zoster virus; shingles in immunocompromised patients; complications with shingles caused by the direct action of the Varicella zoster virus; eye and ear forms of herpes zoster; shingles in persons over the age of 50.

Application

Treatment with acyclovir should be started as early as possible, immediately after the first signs of the disease appear.
The preparation is administered intravenously slowly over 1 hour.

Before use, the contents of 1 bottle should be dissolved in 10 ml of water for injection or isotonic sodium chloride solution; enter using an infusion pump. To prepare an infusion solution, the contents of two ex tempore vials are dissolved in 100 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or Ringer's lactate solution; if a dose exceeding 500 mg is required, an adequate amount of solvent is added.
The preparation of an infusion solution for children who need doses of 10 mg and below is performed in two stages: first, the contents of the bottle are dissolved in 10 ml of water for injection or isotonic sodium chloride solution, and then the appropriate dose is added to the infusion solution in a ratio of 1: 5 (for example, 4 ml in 20 ml).
The product does not contain preservatives. The finished solution is stable for 12 hours at a temperature of 15 to 25 ° C. Do not use a solution in which turbidity has appeared or crystals have formed. For the preparation of infusion solutions, you can use isotonic sodium chloride solution or Ringer's solution.
Water for injection must be free of preservatives (benzyl alcohol or parabens).
