Wöhlk

Back in 1936, the inventor Henrich Wöhlk, who has a farsightedness of +8.00 dpt, turned to Professor Heine from the Kiel Ophthalmological Clinic for the professor to pick up contact lenses for him. Heinrich was offered Carl Zeiss silicate glass scleral lenses. However, wearing these lenses had a number of drawbacks, and in 1940 Heinrich made his own lenses from Plexiglas (organic glass). The lens he created had significantly better characteristics compared to lenses made of silicate glass. Continuing to experiment with materials for contact lenses, Heinrich develops a scleral lens with interchangeable optics (1946). In 1947-1978 Henrich Wöhlk creates the company "Henrich Wöhlk, industrial production of invisible contact lenses". Contact lenses manufactured by Heinrich's company are in great demand, and already in 1951 the company began large-scale deliveries of optics to German cities. In 1977, the company introduces the first rigid-flexible contact lens "Hartflex" to the market, as well as a silicone contact lens "Silflex". The next stage in the development of the company was the signing of a cooperation agreement with Carl Zeiss in 1980, and in 1990 Wöhlk-Contact-Linsen became a fully “daughter” of Zeiss. In 1991, the founder of the company, Henrich Wöhlk, passed away at the age of 78. Continuing the successful development and implementation of contact lenses, Wöhlk integrates into the optical company Baush & Lumb. In 2001, the company undergoes significant changes in the composition of the equipment fleet, the entire injection molding facility is expanded and Wöhlk begins the production of spherical lenses. Continuing to expand, Wöhlk creates Wöhlk-Contact-Linsen-Vertriebs in Austria.

Today Wöhlk is one of the world leaders in the production of the entire range of contact lenses.
