Bengay Pain Relief Ointment is a medicine used to relieve pain and stiffness in muscles and joints caused by injury, overstrain or inflammation, including pain in the lumbosacral spine. The active substances are methyl salicylate and menthol. Bengay ointment can be used by adults and children aged 12 and over and is intended for external use to rub the affected areas.

Indications

Relieving pain and stiffness in muscles and joints caused by overstrain, injury or inflammation, pain in the lumbosacral spine.

Composition

1 g of ointment contains:

active substances: methyl salicylate 150 mg and menthol 100 mg,

excipients: stearic acid, glycerol monostearate, anhydrous lanolin, polysorbate 85, sorbitol tristearate, triethylamine, purified water.

Action

Painkiller, soothing muscle and joint stiffness.

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years of age: apply to the affected areas 3-4 times a day.

Apply the appropriate amount of ointment to the affected area and rub, gently massaging until completely absorbed.

The use of Bengay Pain Relief Ointment without doctor's recommendation should not exceed 7 days.

Contraindications

Allergy to methyl salicylate, menthol or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

The ointment should not be used:

on damaged skin and wounds,

in children under 12 years of age.

Storage

Store below 25 ° C, out of the sight and reach of children.

Side effects

Bengay Pain Relief Ointment, like any other medicine, can cause side effects, but not

Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 patients):

• angioedema
• shortness of breath (as an allergic reaction)
• blisters, burning sensation, erythema, irritation,
• pain, paraesthesia (a feeling of tingling, numbness or changes in skin temperature),
• itching and rash and burns at the injection site.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking or have recently taken, and about the preparations you plan to use.

Concomitant use of Bengay Pain Relief Ointment with acetylsalicylic acid may lead to toxic effects of salicylate.

Bengay Pain Relief Ointment should not be used in patients taking blood thinners (warfarin) because of the risk of bleeding.

Warnings and Precautions

The preparation  should not be used under an occlusive dressing or a warming compress.

Discontinue use of the preparation in the event of excessive skin irritation.

Avoid contact of the ointment with the eyes and mucous membranes.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Bengay Pain Relief Ointment has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

The preparation contains anhydrous lanolin and may cause local skin reactions, including contact dermatitis.
