Pyrantelum Medana is an antiparasitic preparation intended for children from 2 years of age and adults in the treatment of intestinal infection with pinworms - white-colored roundworms. This preparation works on the muscles of the intestinal parasites. Immobilized parasites are removed from the intestine by peristaltic movements of the intestines. Pyrantel does not irritate the intestines or make the worms travel. It affects mature forms and early-stage parasites, but it does not affect the larvae during their migration in the tissues. The active substance is pyrantel.

Indications:

pinworms (the condition for the use of the preparation is the presence of pinworms in the stool and / or around the anus); for children from 2 years and adults.

Composition:

the active substance of the preparation is pyrantel. 5 ml of oral suspension contains 250 mg of pyrantel (as pyrantel pamoate). The other ingredients are: sodium benzoate (E211), carmellose sodium, sorbitol 70% (E 420), glycerol, aluminum-magnesium silicate, polysorbate 80, povidone, apricot flavor, simethicone emulsion, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

Action:

antiparasitic. Immobilized parasites are removed from the intestine by bowel movements. The preparation is active on mature forms and early-stage parasites, but not on the larvae during their migration in the tissues.

Dosage:

The recommended dose for adults and children from 2 years of age weighing from 11 kg: is 11 mg / kg. once. This dose should be repeated two or three weeks after the first dose. The preparation is taken orally, with or without a meal. Shake well before use to obtain a homogeneous suspension.

Dosage depending on body weight:
- 11-16kg: 2.5ml (125mg),
- 17-28kg: 5.0ml (250mg),
- 29-39kg: 7.5ml (357mg),
- 40-50kg: 10ml (500mg),
- 51-62kg: 12.5ml (625mg),
- 63-75kg: 15ml (750mg),
- adults with a body weight> 75 kg: 20 ml (1000 mg).
Patients with liver problems should consult a doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may recommend a lower dose as this medicine may have a negative effect on the liver. The package includes a measuring cup with a scale, which facilitates dosing. The preparation should be taken with or without food. Shake well before use to obtain a homogeneous suspension. There is no need to use laxatives before administration.

Contraindications:

do not use the preparation if the patient is allergic to pyrantel or any of the other ingredients of this preparation. If you are taking piperazine or are treating myasthenia gravis (a disease of the skeletal muscles).
Storage: the preparation should be kept out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 25ºC. Store in the original package in order to protect from light. Once opened, the preparation can be stored for 21 days.

Side effects:

nausea, vomiting, eating disorders, abdominal pain, diarrhea, increased liver enzymes, allergic skin rashes, headache and dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia. Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Interactions:

tell your doctor about all the preparations you are taking or have recently taken, and about any preparations you plan to take. The preparation may increase the concentration of theophylline (used in the treatment of bronchial asthma) in the plasma. The preparation should not be used simultaneously with piperazine, as the effects of both preparations may be reduced.

Warnings and precautions:

Talk to your doctor before taking Pyrantelum Medana if your child is under 2 years of age, if you have liver problems, if you are malnourished or have anemia (anemia).
