Product description

Acatar Control is an aerosol preparation used to treat swelling of the mucous membranes associated with acute rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, Eustachian tube inflammation and otitis media. The active substance is oxymetazoline hydrochloride with anti-edema action.

The use of Acatar Control reduces the swelling of the inflamed nasal mucosa and helps to stop the excess production of secretions. This action opens the nose, reduces runny nose and facilitates nasal breathing. At the same time, reducing the congestion of the nasal mucosa causes the expansion and opening of the drainage ducts of the paranasal sinuses and unlocks the Eustachian tubes. This helps to remove the secretions and to heal the bacterial infection.

Acatar Control nasal spray can be used by adults and children over 6 years of age and older, and its action begins within several seconds after administration and lasts up to 12 hours.

Indications

Swelling of the mucous membranes occurring in acute rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, Eustachianitis, otitis media.

Composition

1 ml of solution contains:

• active substance: oxymetaziline hydrochloride 0.5 mg, corresponding to 0.025 mg per dose,
• other ingredients: benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, propylene glycol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, purified water.

Action

They reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa and facilitate breathing.

Dosage

Children 6-12 years of age: 1 dose in each nostril 2 times a day.

Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1 dose in each nostril 2 to 3 times a day.

Before the first use, start the dispenser by pressing the pump several times until the first full spray appears.

Keeping the head in an upright position (not tilting it back), place the tip of the applicator in the nostril without completely blocking its lumen.

Then press the dispenser quickly and vigorously while inhaling gently through your nose.

Clean the dispenser after use.

One package of the preparation should not be used by more than one person.

The preparation should only be used for a short period of 3 to 5 days, not longer than 7 days. Do not use doses higher than recommended.

Contraindications

Allergy (hypersensitivity) to the substance oxymetazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Dry rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa with the formation of crusts).

Do not use in children under 6 years of age.

Storage

Keep out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25 ° C.

The shelf life after first opening the package is 12 months.

Side effects

Acatar Control, like any other medicine, can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Long-term or frequent use of oxymetazoline, especially in doses higher than recommended, may lead to preparation -induced rhinitis; it may occur after 5-7 days of treatment, and if the use of the preparation is continued, it may lead to permanent damage to the nasal mucosa.

Common (more than 1 in 100 but less than 1 in 10 users):

• burning sensation in the nose, dry nose and sneezing, especially in sensitive patients.

Uncommon (more than 1 in 1000, but less than 1 in 100 people taking this medicine):

• palpitations, increased heart rate and increase in blood pressure following local intranasal administration.

Rare (more than 1 in 10,000, but less than 1 in 1,000 people taking the medicine):

• headache, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety.

Interactions

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription.

The use of tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors (medicines used, for example, in depression) at the same time or immediately before taking Acatar Control may cause an increase in blood pressure.

Warnings and Precautions

Start using the drug should be discussed with your doctor or pharmacist, in particular in the case of:

• simultaneous use of drugs that may raise blood pressure,
• increased intraocular pressure, especially narrow-angle glaucoma,
• severe cardiovascular diseases (e.g. ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension),
• presence of pheochromocytoma,
• metabolic disorders (e.g. hyperthyroidism, diabetes),
• in the elderly, due to the increased risk of increased systemic effects.

Use longer than recommended and / or doses higher than recommended should be avoided.

Long-term use of drugs to reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa can lead to

weakening their action.

Overuse of topical nasal medications can lead to mucosal atrophy and reactive congestion with drug-induced rhinitis.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

When drugs containing oxymetazoline are used for a longer period or in doses higher than recommended, cardiovascular and central nervous system symptoms cannot be excluded; in such cases, the ability to drive or operate machinery may be impaired.

Acatar Control contains benzalkonium chloride which may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa.
