Acyclovir is an antiviral preparation with high in vitro activity against herpes simplex virus types I and II. The toxic effect on the cells of the host is minimal. Once in cells infected with the herpes virus, acyclovir is phosphorylated to form the active compound, acyclovir triphosphate. The first stage of this process depends on the presence of virus-coded and thymidine kinase. Acyclovir triphosphate acts as an inhibitor and substrate for viral DNA polymerase, preventing further viral DNA synthesis without affecting normal cellular processes.

Indications for use

Infections of the lips and face caused by the herpes simplex virus (Herpes labialis).

Contraindications

The preparation should not be prescribed to patients with known hypersensitivity to acyclovir, valacyclovir, propylene glycol or to any other components of the preparation.

Do not use the preparation to treat eyes.

Application features

The cream should be used only for the treatment of herpes on the lips and face. Do not apply the cream to the mucous membranes of the mouth, eyes and do not use it to treat genital herpes to avoid local irritation. Avoid accidental eye contact.

Patients suffering from particularly severe manifestations of Herpes labialis require medical advice. Persons with herpes of the lips should be warned against contact transmission of the virus to others, especially in the presence of open lesions.

The cream is not recommended for patients with immunodeficiency. Such patients need medical advice on the treatment of any infection.

Method of administration and dosage

The preparation is intended for external use only.

Apply the cream in a thin layer to the affected area of ​​the skin using a cotton swab 5 times a day, approximately every 4:00, except at night. The cream should be applied not only to the affected areas of the skin, but also around the lesions. If you do not use a cotton swab when applying the cream, you should thoroughly clean your hands immediately before and after use to prevent additional infection of the affected skin with bacterial and / or viral agents.

Treatment lasts at least 4 days, but therapy should be selected individually and continued until the surface of the vesicle hardens or until it is completely cured. The duration of treatment should not exceed 10 days. If the symptoms of the disease do not disappear after 10 days of treatment, the patient should consult a doctor.

Note: for optimal effect, the cream should be applied at the first sign of herpes infection (tingling, itching, tightness, redness).

You can start treatment in the later stages - papules or bladders. Stop antiviral therapy with acyclovir if a crust forms on the affected area of ​​the skin.

Overdose

Overdose cases were not observed. Since the preparation is intended for topical use only, overdose symptoms are unlikely to develop.

If you suspect an overdose, you should seek medical attention.

Use during pregnancy or lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, the preparation is recommended to be used only when the benefit, in the opinion of the doctor, outweighs the possible risk.

Children

There is insufficient data on the safety of the preparation in children under 12 years of age, therefore it is recommended to prescribe it to children over 12 years of age.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or driving other mechanisms

There is no data on the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive vehicles or other mechanisms.
