Product description

The preparation "Benoxi" is used for local short-term anesthesia of the cornea and conjunctiva:

• when removing foreign particles from the cornea and conjunctiva;
• ophthalmic tonometry, gonioscopy and other diagnostic examinations;
• preparation for subconjunctival and retrobulbar injections.

Structure

The active ingredient is oxybuprocaine hydrochloride (1 ml of solution contains oxybuprocaine hydrochloride 4 mg).

Excipients: boric acid, chlorhexidine diacetate, water for injection.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to the active substance or other components of the preparation;
• severe heart failure;
• thyrotoxicosis;
• open penetrating wounds of the eye;
• hypersensitivity to other local anesthetics of the PABA ester group or the amide group;
• eye infection;
• allergic reactions.

Mode of application

The preparation is intended for adults and children from 2 years of age.

Bury in the conjunctival sac. Eyes should be closed between successive instillations of the preparation.

Corneal and conjunctival anesthesia:

removal of foreign particles contained on the surface - instill 3 times one drop at a time with an interval of 5 minutes;

removal of foreign particles contained deeply - 5-10 times one drop at intervals of 30-60 seconds.

Before carrying out subconjunctival or retrobulbar injections: 3 times one drop at intervals of 5 minutes.

Ocular tonometry, gonioscopy and other examinations: 1-2 drops once.

As with any eye drops, it is recommended to lightly press on the area of ​​the lacrimal sac in the inner corner of the eye and release it after one minute to reduce systemic absorption. This should be done immediately after each drop is instilled.

Remove contact lenses before using eye drops; they can be put on again after the anesthetic is completely gone.

When using two or more ophthalmic agents, the interval between their administration should be at least 5 minutes.

Application features

Pregnant

The safety of using the preparation in pregnant women has not been established. The preparation can be used during pregnancy only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

It is not known whether oxybuprocaine hydrochloride passes into breast milk. "Benoxi" can be used by women during breastfeeding only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the baby.

Children

The preparation is not intended for use in children under 2 years of age.

Drivers

Since oxybuprocaine, after local administration into the conjunctival sac, is absorbed, albeit in small quantities, into the bloodstream, systemic effects may develop. Considering the above, you can drive vehicles, work with mechanisms or work at a height no earlier than 1 hour after the application of drops and after restoration of vision.

Overdose

With the use of excessive doses or with prolonged use, systemic side reactions may develop. Systemic toxicity affects, in particular, the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Irritability, insomnia, sedation, confusion, agitation, euphoria, disorientation, impaired hearing, vision, or speech, paresthesia, nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching, convulsions, respiratory distress, coma, tachycardia, arrhythmia, hypotension, shock and cardiac arrest require symptomatic treatment. The specific antidote is unknown.

Side effects

From the side of the organs of vision: after instillation of the preparation, a temporary sensation of tingling and burning, redness, discomfort may occur, usually quickly disappear. Development of allergic reactions of the eyelids and conjunctiva is possible. As a result of prolonged or frequent use, the following may develop: stromal infiltration, edema, moderate damage to the corneal epithelium, keratitis (including toxic, superficial fine-spotted, disc-shaped, superinfectious candidiasis), fibrinosis of the iris, periorbital contact dermatitis (including allergic), oppression precornial film (only for blue eyes), changes in corneal thickness, decreased sensitivity of the cornea, keratopathy (including striated, bullous, keratopathy, toxic keratopathy, necrotizing ulcerative keratopathy, postoperative keratopathy), wrinkling of the Descemet's membrane of endothelial cells, increase in size, limitation of transillumination of the iris, decrease in the density of endothelial cells, extracellular melanosome, subsequent decrease in normal cytokinetic and mitotic activity in eye cells, formation of peripheral rings on the cornea, development of tolerance, damage to epithelial glue current, irreversible superficial cell damage at the level of corneal endothelial cells, direct cytotoxic effect on corneal cells (including a significant decrease in oxygen consumption by the corneal epithelium), chemosis, development of hypopyon or corneal perforation, necrosis of the cornea or conjunctiva. The appearance of corneal ulcers, recurrent corneal ulcers, delayed healing of the cornea, its irreversible opacity, decreased intraocular pressure, decreased frequency of spontaneous blinking, spontaneous eye movements, false positive reactions, decreased stability of the tear film, cataracts. Cases of fibrinous iritis have been reported.

On the part of the cardiovascular system: bradycardia.

From the nervous system: sedation, confusion, agitation, euphoria, disorientation, impaired hearing, vision or speech, paresthesia, muscle cramps, loss of consciousness, and in case of severe overdose - convulsions, respiratory arrest, coma.

From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, dysphagia.

From the immune system: allergic reactions, including itching, flushing, eyelid edema, contact allergies, urticaria, Quincke's edema, angioedema, anaphylactic shock.

Storage conditions

Store in its original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C, out of the reach of children. Do not freeze.

Shelf life is 2 years.

Store no more than 28 days after opening.
