Product description

Canesten is a preparation for intimate infections with a fungal basis, which soothes and heals with one capsule. It contains an imidazole derivative - clotrimazole, which has a broad spectrum of activity against fungi. It relieves symptoms of vaginal mycosis such as itching, burning and vaginal discharge.

Canesten is used in the treatment of fungal vaginal infections by administering 1 vaginal capsule to women over 16 years of age.

Indications

Treatment of infections of the vagina and female external genitalia caused by microorganisms such as fungi (usually Candida) that are sensitive to clotrimazole.

Composition

1 vaginal capsule contains:

• active ingredient: clotrimazole 500 mg,
• other ingredients (excipients): capsule filling: white petroleum jelly, liquid paraffin; capsule shell: gelatin, glycerol, purified water, titanium dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow (E104), sunset yellow (E110), soy lecithin, medium chain saturated fatty acid triglycerides.

Action

The preparation relieves symptoms of vaginal mycosis such as itching, burning and vaginal discharge.

Dosage

• Adults and adolescents from 16 years of age: one vaginal capsule, deep vaginally, in a single dose, in the evening.

If there is no improvement after 7 days of application, consult your doctor.

Method of administration

• One vaginal capsule, deep vaginally, in a single dose, in the evening. The vaginal capsule should be inserted as deep into the vagina as possible using the applicator provided with the medicinal product.
• During pregnancy, the vaginal capsule should be inserted into the vagina with a finger without using an applicator to prevent cervical injuries.
• Provide a moist vaginal environment for the capsule to dissolve completely. Otherwise, undissolved parts of the capsule may slip out of the vagina, to avoid this it is recommended that you put the capsule as deep into the vagina as possible before going to bed.
• Canesten should not be used during menstruation. This medicinal product should be discontinued before menstrual bleeding begins.
• Sexual partner should also undergo local treatment if there are symptoms such as itching, inflammation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or to any of the excipients.

Storage

Do not store above 25 ° C.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Side effects have been seen with the following frequency:

Common, more than 1 in 100 people:

• baking.

Uncommon, more than 1 in 1,000 people:

• abdominal pain,

• itching,

• skin redness and / or irritation.

Rarely, more than 1 in 10,000 people:

• allergic reactions,

• swelling,

• skin rash,

• vaginal bleeding.

Not known, based on the available data:

• exfoliation in the genital area,

• feeling of discomfort,

• pelvic pain,

The preparation should be discontinued if the patient experiences local side effects or allergic reactions.

Local side effects may be similar to the symptoms of the disease. Therefore, it may be difficult to distinguish the symptoms of infection from the side effects of the preparation.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking or have recently taken, and about any preparations you plan to take.

Tell your doctor if you are taking tacrolimus or sirolimus, medicines used to control the immune response after organ transplantation.

It is possible to increase the blood levels of some medicines when used together with Canesten. However, this is unlikely to occur with a single 500 mg dose.

If you are unsure about using another medicine with Canesten, consult your doctor.

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor before using Canesten:

• when you first got a vaginal infection
• when there were at least 4 cases of infections in the last year,
• in case of a fever of 38 ° C or higher,
• if you have lower abdominal pain, back pain,
• in the case of foul discharge,
•  in case of nausea,
• when there is vaginal bleeding and / or pain in the arms.

Do not use tampons, vaginal irrigation, spermicides or other vaginal products while using Canesten.

Avoid having sexual intercourse while taking Canesten as the infection may pass on to your sexual partner.

The contraceptive effectiveness of latex contraceptives, such as condoms and diaphragms, may be reduced.

Canesten should not be swallowed.
