Indications

Treatment of fungal inflammation (yeast infection) of the mucous membranes of the genital organs (vulvovaginitis, vaginitis, infection of the glans penis). The preparation is indicated in patients under 16 years of age.

Composition

The active substance is clotrimazole: 1 g of vaginal cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole. The other ingredients are: cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, purified water. Packaging: tube and 6 vaginal applicators, 5 ml each, in a cardboard box.

Action

The active substance of the preparation clotrimazole has an antifungal activity; the cream relieves the symptoms of vaginal yeast infection and penile inflammation.

Dosage

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, the preparation should be used once a day, at bedtime, for 6 consecutive days as follows: fully extend the applicator plunger until you feel resistance, open the tube and connect the applicator with the tube. Holding them together, fill the applicator by gently squeezing the tube. Detach the applicator from the tube. Insert the applicator as deep into the vagina as possible (preferably in a lying position with slightly bent legs) and push the plunger until the content of the applicator is completely empty. Remove the applicator and discard. You should wash your hands before and after using the medicine. The preparation  should be used vaginally for 6 consecutive days. Infection of the glans penis (tip of the penis) by yeast (Candida): apply a thin layer of the preparation 2 to 3 times a day to the affected area, rubbing gently. The typical treatment period is 1 to 2 weeks.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, Clotidal may affect the action of oral medications containing tacrolimus or sirolimus. Clotidal also reduces the effectiveness of amphotericin and other polyene antibiotics (e.g., nasal, natamycin). Concomitant topical preparations containing strong steroids reduce the effect of Clotidal. Do not use the preparation during pregnancy, stop breastfeeding during treatment with Clotidal, it may cause local skin reactions, do not use the preparation during menstruation, do not use tampons, vaginal irrigation, spermicides or other vaginal preparations.

The preparation may reduce the effectiveness and safety of latex products. Therefore, additional contraceptive measures should be taken while taking Clotidal.
