Pharmacodynamics

Hemoproct is a complex preparation, the therapeutic effect of which is due to the pharmacological properties of the active components that make up its composition. Hemoproct has a local anesthetic, anti-inflammatory and astringent effect.

Clinical characteristics.

Compound:

Active ingredients: benzocaine, bismuth subgalate, zinc oxide, menthol;

1 suppository contains benzocaine 100 mg, bismuth subgalate 40 mg, zinc oxide 20 mg, menthol 4 mg;

excipients: polyethylene oxide 1500, polyethylene oxide 400.

Indications.

Symptomatic therapy of hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

It is not recommended to use the preparation without strict medical indications and medical supervision while regularly taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO), antidepressants and antihypertensive preparations because of the theoretical possibility of reducing the effect of MAO inhibitors or enhancing the effect of antihypertensive preparations due to interaction with benzocaine in cases of significant excess of the recommended doses and duration of admission.

Features of the application.

With prolonged use of the preparation, monitoring of blood counts is necessary.

In case of profuse bleeding from the anus or in the presence of symptoms of the disease within 7 days of treatment, it is necessary to additionally consult with a proctologist.

You should consult your doctor before using this preparation in the following cases: severe arterial hypertension, severe cardiac arrhythmias, clinically severe thyrotoxicosis, urinary disorders.

The smallest amount of preparation required should be used. There are reports that the administration of preparations containing benzocaine can cause methemoglobinemia. Symptoms such as cyanosis of the skin, lips and nail beds, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath (shortness of breath), weakness, tachycardia, which can be observed during treatment, can indicate methemoglobinemia, which is potentially life threatening and requires urgent medical attention.

Application during pregnancy or lactation.

For women during pregnancy or lactation, the preparation is prescribed, taking into account the benefit / risk ratio.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or other mechanisms.

When treating with the preparation, it is recommended to refrain from driving and performing work that requires increased attention and precise coordination.

Method of administration and dosage.

Before use, the suppository should be removed from the blister. the preparation  is used rectally. 1 suppository is administered 1–2 times a day after a cleansing enema or self-defecation. the duration of the course of treatment is determined by the course and severity of the disease, the achieved therapeutic effect, and the general tactics of treatment.

Children.

There are no data on the use of the preparation in children.

Overdose.

When used in therapeutic doses, overdose is unlikely.

Overdose symptoms may be associated with the pharmacological effects of benzocaine. Its systemic absorption in case of an overdose can manifest itself as drowsiness, anxiety, agitation, and in severe cases, convulsions. There are reports that the administration of preparations containing benzocaine can cause methemoglobinemia. Symptoms such as cyanosis of the skin, lips and nail beds, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath (shortness of breath), weakness, tachycardia, which can be observed during treatment, can indicate methemoglobinemia, which is potentially life threatening and requires urgent medical attention.

Emergency care for overdose and the development of methemoglobinemia consists in the intravenous administration of methylene blue. The rest of the symptoms of an overdose requires discontinuation of the preparation and symptomatic treatment.

Adverse reactions.

Sometimes contact dermatitis, allergic reactions, including flushing, skin rashes, itching occur. the preparation can cause a laxative effect, the appearance of a burning sensation in the anus. with prolonged use, reactions from the blood may develop - methemoglobinemia (cyanosis of the skin, lips and nail beds, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, weakness, tachycardia).
