Product description

Ibuprofen Aflofarm is a medicine in the form of coated tablets with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. One tablet contains 400 mg of ibuprofen belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations (NSAIDs). The preparation is used on an ad hoc basis in the treatment of pain of various etiologies of mild to moderate intensity, including headache, migraine, toothache, muscle pain, pain in the lumbosacral region, osteoarticular pain, neuralgia as well as dysmenorrhea and fever appearing in a course of e.g. flu or a cold. The preparation is intended for temporary use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Indications

Pain of moderate or mild intensity (toothache, joint pain, muscle pain, dysmenorrhea, headache, including migraine headache, menstrual pain).

Feverish conditions of various origins (including influenza, colds or other infectious diseases).

Composition

1 tablet contains:

  • active ingredient: ibuprofen 400 mg,
  • other ingredients: hypromellose, sodium carboxymethyl starch type A, corn starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, gum arabic, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), a mixture of white beeswax and carnauba wax (Capol 1295).

Action

Analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 tablet every 4 hours after meals.

The tablets should be taken orally with water.

Do not use more than 3 tablets a day (maximum daily dose of 1200 mg ibuprofen in divided doses). Without consulting your doctor, do not take the preparation for more than 3 days in case of pain and fever or 2 days in case of a cold or flu. The preparation is intended for immediate use. If symptoms persist / worsen or if new symptoms occur, consult your doctor.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations (NSAIDs) or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.
  • Development of shortness of breath, asthma, runny nose or hives after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
  • History of holes (perforation) in the stomach or bowel wall associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations (NSAIDs).
  • Stomach and duodenal ulcers or ulcer bleeding (now or in the past).
  • Severe liver or kidney failure.
  • Severe heart failure.
  • Concomitant use of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations, including COX-2 inhibitors.
  • Third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Hemorrhagic diathesis.
  • Do not use in children under 12 years of age.

Storage

Side effects

Ibuprofen Aflofarm, like all medicines, can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital if you experience:

  • rash, severe swelling of the face, mouth or throat making it difficult to breathe, speak or swallow, low blood pressure, slow or fast heart rate, pale, restless, sweating, dizziness, bronchospasm, loss of consciousness, respiratory arrest and heart beat
  • gastrointestinal bleeding.

Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 in 1,000 people):

  • stomach ache, nausea, indigestion (stomach cramps, gas, belching, heartburn, constipation),
  • headache, scotoma, blurred vision, double vision, color vision disturbance,
  • hives, itching.

Rare (affects 1 to 10 in 10,000 people):

  • diarrhea, gas, constipation, vomiting, gastritis
  • dizziness, insomnia, tiredness or agitation, irritability
  • swelling.

Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people):

  • gastric and / or duodenal ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding (caused by a hole in the stomach or intestine), sometimes fatal, especially in the elderly,
  • ulcerative stomatitis,
  • worsening of the symptoms of colitis and Crohn's disease
  • high blood pressure, heart failure
  • azotaemia, haematuria, renal failure including acute renal failure, papillary necrosis, decreased creatinine clearance, polyuria, decreased urine output, increased serum sodium,
  • tinnitus, hearing impairment,
  • liver dysfunction, especially during long-term use of the preparation,
  • severe reduction in the number of all blood cells
  • erythema multiforme, toxic epidermal necrolysis, blisters on the skin and / or mucous membranes which, when ruptured, form painful wounds, often at the same time fever, pain
  • muscles and joints (called Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • exfoliation of large areas of the epidermis and its necrosis,
  • systemic lupus erythematosus,
  • mixed connective tissue disease,
  • stiff neck, headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, disorientation,
  • disturbances of consciousness,
  • severe hypersensitivity reactions: swelling of the face, tongue and larynx making it difficult to breathe, speaking or swallowing, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, drop in blood pressure or shock, worsening of asthma symptoms
  • depression, emotional disorders.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

  • severe skin reactions known as DRESS syndrome
  • a red, scaly rash with bumps under the skin and blisters, mostly in the skin folds, on the trunk and arms, with a fever at the start of treatment
  • (acute generalized pustular eruption).

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking or have recently taken, and about any preparations you plan to take.

Ibuprofen Aflofarm may affect the effect of other preparations or other preparations may affect the effect of Ibuprofen Aflofarm, and you should inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following preparations.

Preparation that can increase gastrointestinal bleeding:

  • acetylsalicylic acid,
  • other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparation (NSAIDs);
  • corticosteroids
  • antiplatelet preparations
  • selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Ibuprofen Aflofarm may increase the effect of:

  • preparations with anticoagulant activity,
  • lithium
  • methotrexate,
  • digoxin
  • phenytoin.

Ibuprofen Aflofarm may reduce the effectiveness of:

  • preparations to lower blood pressure,
  • diuretics
  • mifepristone.
  • Preparations that can damage the kidneys:
  • tacrolimus
  • cyclosporine.

Do not take Ibuprofen Aflofarm at the same time:

  • with zidovudine,
  • with probenecid and sulfinpyrazone,
  • with sulfonylurea derivatives,
  • with quinolone antibiotics.

Warnings and Precautions

Taking medications like ibuprofen may be associated with a slight increase in your risk of a heart attack or stroke, especially if you use high doses (do not exceed the recommended dose and duration of treatment).

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist when starting Ibuprofen Aflofarm, in particular:

  • if you suffer from heart problems such as heart failure, angina pectoris, you have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, you have peripheral arterial disease or if you have had any stroke
  • if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, a family history of heart disease or stroke, or if you smoke
  • if you suffer from certain skin diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease,
  • if the patient has stomach and / or intestinal diseases, e.g. chronic enteritis, ulcerative duodenitis, Crohn's disease, diseases of the anus and rectum,
  • if you have kidney and liver problems,
  • if you have a blood clotting disorder,
  • if you have asthma or an allergy (present or in the past)
  • if you are taking additional medications, in particular anticoagulants, diuretics, cardiac medications, corticosteroids,
  • if you are taking additional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations, including COX-2 inhibitors,
  • if you suffer from chickenpox (the use of the preparation is not recommended).
  • If you experience headaches during long-term use of high doses of analgesics, these should not be relieved by increasing the dose of the analgesic.
  • In case of visual disturbances, the patient should contact an ophthalmologist.
  • The preparation may mask the symptoms of an existing infection.
  • If the patient has gastrointestinal diseases, especially if the patient is over 65, inform the doctor about any unusual symptoms related to the gastrointestinal tract (especially bleeding, pain), especially in the initial period of treatment (then the lowest effective dose of the medicinal product should be used).
  • Ibuprofen Aflofarm should be used with caution in patients who are taking other preparations concomitantly that may increase the risk of gastrointestinal disorders or bleeding, such as corticosteroids or anticoagulants such as acenocoumarol or anti-aggregating preparations such as acetylsalicylic acid.
  • The simultaneous, long-term use of various painkillers can cause kidney damage and even kidney failure (postalgesic nephropathy).
  • There have been reports of severe skin reactions associated with the use of Ibuprofen Aflofarm (if you develop any skin rash, mucosal lesions, blisters or other allergic symptoms, stop taking Ibuprofen Aflofarm and seek medical attention immediately, as these may be a problem. first signs of a very severe skin reaction).
  • If you take this medicine for a long time, your doctor may check your kidney function, liver function and blood tests at regular intervals.
  • Taking ibuprofen may be associated with a slight increase in the risk of heart attack or stroke, and this risk is increased by long-term use of high doses of the preparation (do not use higher doses of the preparation and extend the duration of treatment than recommended).
  • The preparation contains 420.5 mg of sucrose in 1 tablet; in case of previously diagnosed intolerance to some sugars, the patient should consult a doctor before taking the preparation.
  • This medicine contains 0.7-0.84 mg of sodium per tablet and is essentially 'sodium-free'.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Ibuprofen Aflofarm should not be used in the first and second trimester of pregnancy.
  • This medicine must not be used during the last trimester of pregnancy.
  • Ibuprofen passes into breast milk to a small extent (there are no reports of harmful effects of the preparation on infants, so it is not necessary to stop feeding during short-term use of ibuprofen, at doses used to treat pain and fever).
  • Ibuprofen Aflofarm may adversely affect female fertility (this effect is transient and disappears after the end of treatment).

Driving vehicles and operating machinery

  • Ibuprofen Aflofarm has no or minor influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
  • If you feel drowsy, dizzy, or have visual disturbances, do not drive or use machines.
