ITALFARMACO

The Italfarmaco Group was founded in Milan, where Italfarmaco S.p.A. was founded in 1938.

It was one of the few Italian companies created exclusively with Italian capital. The first years of the company's existence coincided with the beginning of the Second World War, which was a very difficult test.

But already in 1942, "Italfarmaco" launched two product names on the market, which immediately brought the company to a high level both in terms of turnover and quality. These names were “Glyceroovalerovit” and “Calcium with Ascorbic Acid”. Since that moment, Italfarmaco has been supplying patented drugs to the market and pays great attention to clinical research.

In 1975, the Company began an ambitious project to expand its scope of activities. Along with the production of strategic raw materials, the merger of functionally related enterprises began, mergers and acquisitions of companies engaged in chemical production both inside Italy and outside Italy were carried out. In 1983, Italfarmaco merged with such large Italian companies as Kemi S.p.A and Layffarma, which until then was mainly engaged in foreign markets.

Further, in 1985, the Spanish Pharmaceutical Institute (LPB Instituto Farmacéutico SpA) was acquired as a joint research center for Italfarmaco and Sandoz Italia. This research center focuses on the study of metabolic processes in bone tissue. While the company was reaching the level of proper competitiveness in the Italian market in the field of immunology, angiology and cardiology, active investment activities were launched both within Italy and abroad.

Registration of such original medicines as "Iron Protein - succinylate", "Glycerophosphocholine" and "Low molecular weight heparin" in the main countries of the European Union (at that time the EEC), namely: Germany, France and Spain.

In 1989, the Italfarmaco Group of Companies included the Zilliken S.p.A firm, founded in Geneva in 1919, as a manufacturer and distributor of patented products under licenses of German companies. This acquisition made it possible to significantly expand the list of drugs produced by Italfarmaco.

In June 1991, the company Italfarmaco S.A. was founded in Spain. (Italfarmaco, S.A.). This is the result of many years of effort to implement a project to structure production processes. The Spanish plant was created for the production of liquid dosage forms, while the Italian plant was dedicated to the production of solid forms. "Italfarmako S.A." consolidated the company's presence in the Spanish market, focusing on drugs for the fight against respiratory, cardiovascular and gynecological diseases.

Later, the company began to position itself as a manufacturer of dermatological, oncological, neurological and pediatric products. The Italfarmaco Group continued to grow and develop in other countries: a new company, ITF Chemicals Ltda, was opened in Brazil, and subsidiaries were established in Greece, Russia, the USA, Chile, Portugal and France.
