Luxfen (Luxphen) eye drops - to treat open-angle glaucoma, decrease in intraocular pressure. The preparation can be used as a monotherapeutic agent by patients who have contraindications to the use of local beta-adrenoreceptor blockers.

Luxfen eye drops - antiglaucoma preparation. Brimonidine is a selective α 2 -adrenoreceptor agonist.

When instillation 0.2% solution of brimonidine, the decrease in intraocular pressure is 10-12 mm Hg. The maximum effect is observed after 2 hours, the duration of the action is 12 hours.

Brimonidine has a dual mechanism of action: it lowers the intraocular pressure by decreasing the synthesis of the intraocular fluid and enhancing the uveoscleral outflow.

Pharmacokinetics

Suction and distribution

When instillation of eye drops Cmax preparation in blood plasma is achieved after 0.5-2.5 h. Binding to blood proteins with topical application is 29%. The systemic absorption of brimonidine is slowed down. After applying the preparation 2 times / day for 10 days, the concentration of brimonidine in the plasma remains low (an average of 0.06 ng / ml).

Metabolism and distribution

The preparation is metabolized primarily in the liver. Brimonidine and its metabolites are excreted by the kidneys. T1 / 2 is about 2 hours.

Indications:

Open angle glaucoma, ophthalmic hypertension (in monotherapy and in combination with other preparations that reduce intraocular pressure).

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation;
• simultaneous therapy with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants;
• children's age up to 2 years;
• the period of lactation.

With caution: when using the preparation in patients with severe, unstable and uncontrolled form of cardiovascular disease, with cerebral or coronary insufficiency, depression, orthostatic hypotension, Raynaud's disease, obliterating thromboangiitis; if the liver or kidney function is impaired; children age from 2 to 18 years.

Special instructions:

Before using the preparation, contact lenses should be removed. The time interval between use of the preparation and the re-installation of contact lenses should be at least 15 minutes.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms that require increased concentration

The preparation can cause fatigue or drowsiness, reduced vision, so during preparation treatment should refrain from driving vehicles and servicing moving mechanisms.

Suggested Use:

Bury 1 drop of the preparation 2 times a day.

The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.
