Product description

Memox tablets are indicated for mild to severe Alzheimer's disease.

Compound

Active substance: memantine;

1 tablet contains memantine hydrochloride 10 mg or 20 mg;

Excipients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate;

Mixture for film coating: lactose, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), polyethylene glycol 4000 (macrogol), for tablets 20 mg iron oxide yellow (E 172), iron oxide red (E 172).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any component of the preparation.

Mode of application

Treatment should be started and carried out under the supervision of a physician, and only if there is a guardian who will regularly monitor the patient's intake of the preparation.

The preparation should be taken once a day every day at the same time. The tablets can be taken with food or with or without food.

The preparation should not be used during pregnancy, except in cases due to a clear and obvious need.

Children

The preparation should not be used in children due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy.

Drivers

Moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease usually results in impaired driving ability and impaired ability to operate machinery. Also, memantine has little or moderate effect on the reaction rate of a person, therefore, outpatients should be warned about the need to take special care when driving or working with equipment.

Overdose

Experience is limited.

Relatively significant overdoses (200 mg and 105 mg for 3 days, respectively) were either associated with symptoms of increased fatigue, weakness and / or diarrhea, or were asymptomatic. In case of an overdose of up to 140 mg or an unknown dose, symptoms of central nervous system disorders (confusion, lethargy, drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, aggression, hallucinations, gait disturbances) and / or gastrointestinal disturbances (vomiting and diarrhea) were observed. After taking 2000 mg of memantine, the patient developed a coma within 10 days, later - diplopia and excitement. After symptomatic treatment and plasmapheresis, the patient recovered without sequelae.

Treatment is symptomatic, there is no specific antidote. Standard clinical procedures should be used to remove the active substance from the body, for example, gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon, methods of acidifying the urine reaction, forced diuresis. In the case of excessive general stimulation of the central nervous system, symptomatic therapeutic measures should be used with caution.

Side effects

From the immune system: often - hypersensitivity.

From the side of the psyche: often - drowsiness; infrequently - confusion, hallucinations; indefinite - psychotic reactions.

From the nervous system: often - dizziness, imbalance; infrequently - gait disturbance; very rarely - convulsive seizures.

From the side of the heart: infrequently - heart failure.

From the side of the vessels: often - arterial hypertension; infrequently - venous thrombosis / thromboembolism.

From the respiratory system: often - shortness of breath.

From the gastrointestinal tract: often - constipation; infrequently - vomiting; undefined - pancreatitis.

From the liver and biliary tract: often - increased liver function indicators; undefined - hepatitis.

Interaction

The simultaneous use of memantine and amantadine should be avoided due to the risk of developing pharmacotoxic psychosis. Both compounds are chemically bound NMDA antagonists. The same may be true for ketamine and dextromethorphan.

There is evidence regarding the risk of psychosis with the combined use of memantine and phenytoin.
