Meralys ® Advance is shown

• For the symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion with colds, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis.
• To facilitate the outflow of secretions in diseases of the paranasal sinuses.
• As an adjunct therapy for otitis media (to eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane).
• To facilitate rhinoscopy.

Structure

active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride

1 ml of solution contains 1 mg or 0.5 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.

excipients: purified sea water, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium hyaluronate, purified water.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance xylometazoline hydrochloride or to any of the excipients of the preparation;
• dry inflammation of the nasal membrane with crust formation (dry rhinitis);
• simultaneous treatment with MAO inhibitors, treatment with MAO inhibitors for two weeks before starting the use of Meralys ® Advance or other preparations that can increase blood pressure;
• after hypophysectomy or surgery on the dura mater;
• angle-closure glaucoma;
• acute coronary diseases;
• hyperthyroidism;
• coronary asthma;
• children under 2 years old for 0.05% spray; and age up to 12 years for 0.1% spray;
• period of pregnancy.

Mode of application

Before using the preparation, you should thoroughly clean the nose.

The preparation should not be used during pregnancy due to its potential vasoconstrictor effect.

Children

Meralys ® Advance nasal spray 0.05% is intended for the treatment of children aged 2 to 12 years. Meralys ® Advance nasal spray 0.1% is intended for the treatment of children aged 12 years and older.

Drivers

In cases of long-term use of Meralys ® Advance in high doses, an undesirable effect of the preparation on the cardiovascular system is possible, which can negatively affect the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms.

Overdose

Severe overdose will require hospital treatment. Since xylometazoline hydrochloride is rapidly absorbed, you should immediately take activated charcoal (absorbent), sodium sulfate (laxative), or resort to gastric lavage (when using higher doses). Lowering blood pressure can be achieved with non-selective alpha blockers. Vasoconstrictor preparations  are contraindicated. If necessary, antipyretic and anticonvulsant preparations are used, as well as artificial oxygen respiration.

Side effects

General disorders and reactions at the injection site:

often: burning sensation at the site of application.

Prolonged or frequent use with high doses of xylometazoline can lead to burning or dryness of the mucous membrane and increased edema of the mucous membrane, which worsen with further use of the preparation(medication rhinitis). This effect can be seen as early as 7 days of treatment, and when treatment is continued, it can lead to long-term damage to the mucous membrane with the formation of crusts (dry rhinitis).

Interaction

MAO inhibitors (MAO inhibitors): xylometazoline can potentiate the action of MAO inhibitors and induce a hypertensive crisis. Do not use xylometazoline in patients who have taken or have taken MAO inhibitors within the past two weeks.

Storage conditions

Does not require special storage conditions. Keep out of the reach of children.

Shelf life is 3 years. The shelf life after opening the package is not more than 180 days.
