Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Noophen is a derivative of gamma and phenylethylamine.

Its antihypoxic and antiamnesic action is dominant. Noophen stimulates learning processes, improves memory, increases physical and mental performance. Noophen also has tranquilizing features: it eliminates psycho-emotional stress, anxiety, fear, emotional lability, irritability, improves sleep; lengthens and enhances the effect of sleeping pills, narcotic, neuroleptic and anticonvulsants. Unlike tranquilizers, under the influence of Noophen, indicators of higher nervous activity (attention, memory, speed and accuracy of sensory-motor reactions) are improved. The preparation lengthens the latency period and reduces the duration and severity of nystagmus, has an antiepileptic effect. Does not affect choline and adrenergic receptors. Noophen significantly reduces the manifestations of asthenia and vaso-vegetative symptoms, including headache, a feeling of heaviness in the head. In patients with asthenia and in emotionally labile patients, from the very first days of preparation therapy, well-being improves, interest and initiative, motivation for vigorous activity without sedation or excitement increase. It was found that when taking Noophen in traumatic brain injury, the number of mitochondria in the cells of perifocal tissues increases and bioenergetic processes in the brain improve. In the presence of disturbances in the activity of the heart and stomach, it normalizes the processes of lipid peroxidation.

Pharmacokinetics. The preparation  is well absorbed after oral administration and penetrates well into all tissues of the body, penetrates the BBB. It is distributed evenly in the liver and kidneys, and unevenly in the brain and blood. After 3 hours, a moderate amount of injected Noophenis determined in urine, at the same time, the concentration of the preparation in the brain tissue does not decrease, it is detected in the brain after another 6 hours. The next day after taking Noophen, it can be detected only in urine; it is determined in urine 2 days after application, however, the determined amount is 5% of the administered dose. The greatest binding of Noophen occurs in the liver (80%), it is not specific. With repeated administration, cumulation is not noted.

Indications

Decrease in intellectual and emotional activity, memory impairment, decreased concentration. asthenic and anxiety-neurotic states, anxiety, fear, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychopathy. in children - stuttering, enuresis, tics. in elderly people - insomnia, night anxiety. prevention of stressful conditions, before surgery or painful diagnostic tests. Menier's disease, dizziness associated with dysfunction of the vestibular apparatus, for the prevention of motion sickness. in the complex treatment of alcoholism, for the relief of psychopathological and somatovegetative disorders in withdrawal syndrome. treatment of alcoholic predilirious and delirious conditions combined with conventional detoxification agents. in the complex treatment of women with osteochondrosis of the cervicothoracic spine and climacteric disorders. prevention of stressful conditions before surgery or painful diagnostic tests.

Application

Noophen is taken orally before meals.

250 mg tablets

In asthenic and anxiety-neurotic states, adults are prescribed 250-500 mg 3 times a day. The highest single dose for adults is 750 mg, for elderly patients - 500 mg.

The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. If necessary, the course of treatment can be extended to 4–6 weeks.

Children over the age of 8 - 250 mg 3 times a day, children over the age of 14 - doses for adults.

With dizziness associated with dysfunction of the vestibular apparatus of infectious genesis and with Meniere's disease, Noophen tablets are prescribed 750 mg 3 times a day for 5-7 days, with a decrease in the severity of vestibular disorders - 250-500 mg 3 times a day for 5– 7 days, and then - 250 mg 1 time per day for 5 days. With a relatively mild course of the disease, take 250 mg 2 times a day for 5-7 days, then 250 mg once a day for 7-10 days.

With dizziness associated with dysfunction of the vestibular apparatus of the vascular and traumatic genesis, Noophen  is prescribed 250 mg 3 times a day for 12 days.

For the prevention of motion sickness is prescribed in a dose of 250-500 mg once 1 hour before the expected start of rolling or when the first symptoms of motion sickness appear.

The effect of Noophen is enhanced with an increase in the dose of the preparation. In the presence of severe manifestations (vomiting and nausea), the use of the preparation is ineffective even at a dose of 750-1000 mg.

To relieve alcohol withdrawal syndrome, Noophen in the first days of treatment is prescribed 250-500 mg 3 times a day and 750 mg at night with a gradual decrease in the daily dose to the usual for adults.

250 mg capsules

Powder for oral solution 100 mg

Dissolve the contents of the sachet in ½ cup of boiled water and take orally before meals. The course of treatment is 2-6 weeks.

For children aged 3-4 years, appoint 100 mg (1 sachet) 2 times a day; 5-6 years - 100 mg 3 times a day; 7-10 years old - 200 mg (2 sachets of 100 mg) 2 times a day; 11-14 years old - 200 mg (2 sachets of 100 mg) 3 times a day.

Children over the age of 14 are advised to prescribe Noophen 250 mg tablets or capsules.

The highest single doses for children under 6 years old are 100 mg, from 7 to 10 years old - 200 mg, from 11 to 14 years old - 300 mg.

For the prevention of motion sickness, take a single dose of the preparation 100 mg 1 hour before traveling by sea, land or air.

Noophen can be combined with other psychotropic preparations, this increases its effectiveness, while the dose of Noophen and other preparations taken with it can be reduced.

Powder for oral solution 500 mg

Dissolve the contents of the sachet in ½ cup of boiled water and take orally before meals. The course of treatment is 2-6 weeks.

The preparation is prescribed 500 mg 1-3 times a day. If necessary, the daily dose can be increased to 2.5 g (5 sachets).

Noophen can be combined with other psychotropic preparations, this increases its effectiveness, while the dose of Noophen and other preparations taken with it can be reduced.

To relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the first days of treatment, 500 mg is prescribed 2-3 times during the day and 500 mg at night, with a gradual decrease in the daily dose to the usual for adults.

For the treatment of dizziness in the case of dysfunction of the vestibular analyzer of infectious origin (otogenic labyrinthitis) and Meniere's disease, Noophen is prescribed during the exacerbation of 500 mg 4 times a day for 5-7 days, with a decrease in the severity of vestibular disorders - 500 mg 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days, and then - 500 mg 1 time per day for 5 days. With a relatively mild course of diseases, Noophen is used 500 mg once a day for 5-7 days, and then 100 mg 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days.

For the treatment of dizziness in case of dysfunction of the vestibular analyzer of vascular and traumatic genesis, Noophen is prescribed 500 mg 1-2 times a day for 12 days.

For the treatment of men with erectile dysfunction of psychogenic and mixed genesis - 500 mg Noophen 1 time per day. The course of treatment is 21-28 days.

For the prevention of motion sickness in sea voyages, it is prescribed once in a dose of 500 mg 1 hour before the expected onset of motion sickness or when the first symptoms of motion sickness appear.

With an increase in the dose of the preparation, the effectiveness of Noophen as a remedy for motion sickness increases. In the presence of severe manifestations of seasickness (vomiting, etc.), oral administration of Noophen is ineffective even at a dose of 1000 mg.

For the prevention of air sickness, Noophen is prescribed once in a dose of 500 mg 1 hour before the flight.

If one or more times the next dose was not taken on time, the course of treatment should be continued according to the previously prescribed doses.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the preparation. opn. the preparation Noophen in the form of a powder of 500 mg, No. 30, includes aspartame, a source of phenylalanine. its use is contraindicated in patients with phenylketonuria.

Side effects

From the nervous system: drowsiness (at the beginning of treatment), headache and dizziness (in doses above 2 g / day, with a decrease in the dose, the severity of side effects decreases).

From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea (at the beginning of treatment), vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the epigastric region.

From the liver and biliary tract: hepatotoxicity (with prolonged use in high doses).

From the immune system: allergic reactions, including rash, itching, urticaria, flushing of the skin.

Disorder of the psyche: emotional lability, sleep disturbance (these side reactions can occur in children when the preparation  is used in contradiction with the instructions for use).

Special instructions

Care should be taken when prescribing to patients with digestive tract pathology due to the irritating effect of Noophen . these patients are prescribed the preparation in reduced doses. with prolonged use, the cellular composition of the blood, indicators of functional liver tests are monitored.

Use during pregnancy and lactation is undesirable, since there is insufficient data to confirm the safety of the preparation during this period.

Children

Tablets 250 mg. The preparation can be used in children over the age of 8 years.

250 mg capsules. The preparation can be used in children over the age of 11.

500 mg capsules. The preparation in this dosage is not used in children.

Powder for oral solution 100 mg. The experience of using the preparation in children under 3 years of age has not been studied.

Powder for oral solution 500 mg. The use of the preparation in children is contraindicated.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms. Patients who experience drowsiness, dizziness, or other disorders of the central nervous system should not drive vehicles or operate other mechanisms during treatment.

Interactions

Noophen can be combined with psychotropic preparations, reducing the dose of Noophen and the preparations used with it.

Noophen enhances and prolongs the effect of sleeping pills, narcotic, neuroleptic and antiparkinsonian preparations.

Overdose

Noophen is low-toxic, only in a daily dose of 7-14 g with prolonged use, it can have a hepatotoxic effect. the indicated doses significantly exceed the recommended ones (the average therapeutic daily dose is 0.5–2.5 g). only at the highest applied dose was sometimes noted eosinophilia and fatty degeneration of the liver. when using the preparation in lower doses, there were no such changes.

Symptoms: drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, possible development of arterial hypotension, acute renal failure.

Treatment: gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy. In case of complications (arterial hypotension, renal failure), additional therapy is performed.
