Pharmacological properties

An agent that helps soften and facilitate the movement of feces, stimulates the defecation reflex. Sodium docusate is an anionic surfactant that reduces the surface tension of fluid in the large intestine. the effect is manifested at the level of fecal masses. sodium docusate promotes water retention in feces, which, in turn, increases their volume.

The onset of the effect is 5–20 minutes after administration. Norgalax acts locally in the rectum. At the same time, minimal absorption of the preparation by the intestinal mucosa and its entry into the systemic circulation during rectal administration is not excluded.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment for recurrent constipation, when it is necessary to use an enema; preparation for endoscopic examination of the rectum.

Application

Apply rectally. the gel is injected into the rectum using a cannula tube (microclysters).

Remove the cap before use. Insert the pointed part of the cannula tube into the rectum and squeeze out the contents of the entire tube under pressure. Remove the cannula tube without releasing the pressure.

If necessary, a drop of gel can be used to lubricate the cannula.

Symptomatic treatment of constipation: 1 tube-cannula per day.

Preparation for endoscopic examination of the rectum: 1 tube-cannula 5–20 minutes before defecation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Intestinal obstruction, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease.

Side effects

From the side of the digestive tract: with prolonged treatment, there may be a burning sensation in the anus, pain in the rectal region, very rarely stagnant proctitis and rectal bleeding may develop. the presence of glycerin can lead to indigestion and diarrhea.

From the hepatobiliary system: cases of hepatotoxicity have been identified with oral administration of docusate, especially in patients using other laxatives.

On the part of the skin: urticaria.

Special instructions

The use of the preparation is unacceptable for ulcerative colitis.
