Product description

Oftahist is a preparation used to treat allergic eye diseases. It works by reducing the intensity of the allergic reaction. The preparation is intended for use in patients diagnosed with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis manifested by itching, tearing, redness and swelling of the eyelids and conjunctiva. These symptoms are often accompanied by a runny nose, sneezing, or itching in the nose and ears. These mangle appear and have a sharp but temporary course and may be caused by some allergenic substances (allergens), including pollen, house dust or animal hair.

Indications

Treatment of ocular symptoms in adult patients diagnosed with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.

Composition

1 ml of the preparation contains:
  • active ingredient: olopatadine in the form of 1 mg hydrochloride,
  • excipients: benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, disodium phosphate anhydrous, sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment), hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment), water for injections.

Action

Reduction of the severity of the eye sensitization caused by allergens.

Dosage

Adults: 1 drop in the eye or eyes twice a day (morning and evening), directly into the conjunctival sac.
There should be an interval of at least 8 hours between instilling the doses.
Before using this medicine, remove your contact lenses and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
The duration of treatment is up to two weeks. If symptoms do not improve or worsen within three days of starting treatment, a doctor should be consulted. If necessary, treatment may be continued for up to four months after medical consultation, but the preparation should not be used for more than 4 months.

Contraindications

Allergy to olopatadine or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.
The preparation should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Storage

Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children.
After first opening the bottle, the medicine can be used for four weeks without risk of infection. Write down the date you opened the bottle on the free area of ​​the label and box.

Side effects

Oftahist like any other medicine can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Stop using the preparation immediately and contact your doctor if you experience any symptoms of a hypersensitivity reaction, including breathing problems, swelling of the throat or face.
In patients with severely damaged the front clear layer of the eye (the cornea), cloudy spots on the cornea caused by calcium build-up during treatment have been reported very rarely.
Common (less than 1 in 10 patients):
  • Effects in the eye: eye pain, eye irritation, dry eye, unusual sensations inside the eye,
  • general symptoms: headache, unpleasant taste in the mouth, dry nasal mucosa, fatigue.
Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 patients)
  • Effects in the eye: corneal disorders, inflammation of the surface of the eye with or without damage to the surface of the eye, discharge from the eye, photosensitivity, blurred or reduced vision, blepharospasm, eye discomfort, eye itching, conjunctival disorder, foreign body sensation in the eye. eye, increased tear production, redness or swelling of the eyelids, eyelid abnormalities, redness of the eye
  • general symptoms: rhinitis, dizziness, abnormal or impaired sensation, dermatitis (contact), burning sensation of the skin, dry skin.
Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data):
  • Eye effects: corneal swelling, eye swelling, conjunctivitis, pupil size change, visual disturbance, eyelid margins,
  • general symptoms: hypersensitivity, face swelling, drowsiness, dyspnoea, sinusitis, nausea, vomiting, dermatitis and redness, general weakness, malaise.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking or are planning to take recently.
Leave at least 5-10 minutes between the administration of Oftahist and any other eye drops or ointments (eye ointments should be used last).

Warnings and Precautions

Consult your doctor in the following cases:
  • when it is uncertain whether the eye symptoms are caused by allergy, in particular when only one eye is affected, there is visual disturbance or severe eye pain not accompanied by nasal symptoms,
  • if the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 72 hours despite using Oftahist.
Oftahost contains benzalkonium chloride which may cause eye irritation and will cause a discoloration of soft contact lenses.
Before using the medicine, remove your contact lenses and wait 15 minutes after using the medicine before putting them back in.
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks that she may be pregnant or is planning to have a baby, consult a doctor before taking this medicine.
Oftahist should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
After using Oftahist, you should not drive or operate machinery for some time, as after instillation in your eyes you may experience blurred vision temporarily.
