Product description

Soledum forte is used as an expectorant in the treatment of a productive cough (also known as a wet cough) and as an adjunct to acute, non-inflammatory sinusitis.

Indications

Treatment of productive cough and supportive care for acute non-suppurative sinusitis.

Composition

1 capsule contains:

• active ingredient: cineol (Cineolum) 200 mg,
• excipients: medium chain fatty acid triglycerides, gelatin, liquid sorbitol, non-crystallising, glycerol 85%, purified water, Surelease - Nutrateric suspension (ethylcellulose, medium chain triglycerides, oleic acid, concentrated ammonium hydroxide, purified water) , NS Enteric - Nutrateric (sodium alginate, stearic acid), Candelilla wax.

Action

Antitussive.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 capsule 3 times a day. In continuation or long-term treatment, a twice-daily dose is usually sufficient.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to cineole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

For whooping cough or pertussis.

In children under 12 years of age.

Storage

Store below 30 ºC.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Uncommon (1 to 10 patients in 1,000):

• Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea)

Rare (1 to 10 patients in 10,000):

• Hypersensitivity reactions (face swelling, itching, breathing difficulties, coughing) and difficulty swallowing.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking or have recently taken, and about any preparations you plan to take. Animal studies have shown that cineole induces hepatic enzyme metabolism. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that high doses of cineol may weaken or shorten the effect of other preparations. So far, no such effect has been found in humans.

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Soledum forte.

If you suffer from a disease associated with severe respiratory hypersensitivity.

If symptoms persist for more than a week, or if shortness of breath, fever or purulent or bloody coughing occurs, consult a doctor.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy:

• no data are available on the use of Soledum forte during pregnancy,
• in case of pregnancy, Soledum forte can be used only after consulting a doctor,
• animal studies have shown that in rats cineole - the active substance of Soledum forte - crosses the placental barrier into the fetal bloodstream,
• however, the results of animal studies so far do not indicate any fetal abnormalities.

Breast-feeding:

• 1,8-cineole is excreted in breast milk after oral administration, but no notable problems have been reported so far in infants who are breastfed of mothers taking 1,8-cineole.

Driving and using machines:

• no special precautions are necessary,

Soledum forte in one capsule contains 17 mg of sorbitol.
