Pharmacological properties.

The preparation is active against strains of bacteria resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, sulfonamides; gram-positive (staphilococcus spp., streptococcus spp.) and gram-negative (neisseria gonorrhoeae, neisseria meningitides) cocci, many bacteria (escherichia coli, haemophilus influenzae, salmonella spp., shigella spp., st. ), rickettsia, spirochetes, pathogens of trachoma, psitacosis, inguinal lymphogranulomatosis, has antimicrobial and antibacterial (bacteriostatic) effect. the mechanism of action is associated with a violation of the synthesis of proteins of microorganisms. resistance of microorganisms to chloramphenicol develops relatively slowly.

Indications.

Local treatment of purulent-inflammatory skin lesions (carbuncles, boils), purulent wounds, trophic ulcers that do not heal for a long time, second-third degree burns, nipple cracks in women in labor.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to preparation components. psoriasis, eczema, fungal skin diseases.

Composition:

Active ingredient: 1 g of liniment contains chloramphenicol (syntomycin) - 50 mg;

excipients: castor oil, emulsifier No. 1, sorbic acid, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, purified water;

auxiliary substances that make up the emulsifier No. 1: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

The simultaneous use of the preparation with erythromycin, oleandomycin, nystatin and levorin increases the antibacterial activity of liniment, and decreases with benzylpenicillin salts. the preparation is incompatible with sulfonamides.

The preparation  is incompatible with cytostatics, biphenyl, barbiturates and pyrazolone derivatives, ethanol.

Features of the application.

Liniment is not allowed to get into the eyes. uncontrolled preparation treatment in pediatric practice should not be allowed, used only as directed by a doctor.

Antibacterial agents for external use can lead to skin sensitization, accompanied by the development of hypersensitivity reactions in the future (when these preparations are prescribed externally or in the form of a dosage form of systemic action).

Application during pregnancy or lactation.

Since the pharmacokinetics of synthomycin has not been studied, the preparation should be used with caution during pregnancy and only when, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding does not need to be stopped during the treatment of nipple cracks in women in labor.

Before breastfeeding, the remnants of the preparation from the nipple and the skin around it should be removed with a clean napkin, and the gland should be thoroughly and carefully washed.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or operating other mechanisms.

Method of administration and dosage.

The preparation is impregnated with gauze tampons or applied in a thin layer directly to the affected areas. a regular bandage is applied on top, it is possible with parchment or compress paper. dressings are carried out, depending on the indications, after 1-3 days, sometimes - after 4-5 days. the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.

In case of nipple cracks in women in labor, after each feeding, the nipples are washed with a 0.25% solution of ammonia, then a sterile napkin covered with a layer of liniment is applied to the crack. At the same time, sharp painful sensations are quickly relieved, and after 2–5 days after the start of treatment, the cracks are healed.

Children.

Do not appoint children in the first 4 weeks of life.

Overdose.

Symptoms: possible increase in the side effects of the preparation.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Allergic reactions are possible (including skin rashes, itching, burning sensation, hyperemia, edema).
