Meralys® is a combination of the vasoconstrictor preparation xylometazoline and sterile sea water of the Adriatic Sea.

Active ingredients

Xylometazoline. It has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect: it causes a narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Facilitates nasal breathing with rhinitis. In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The effect occurs within a few minutes after application and lasts for 12 hours. The preparation is well tolerated, including by patients with sensitive mucous membranes.

Features of the

Unlike other vasoconstrictors, Meralys®, in addition to xylometazoline, contains sea water.

With nasal congestion, vasoconstrictor preparations help reduce swelling and normalize nasal breathing. However, prolonged use of traditional vasoconstrictors or an increase in the frequency of their use is fraught with complications: the appearance of dryness and irritation of the mucous membrane, the appearance of microcracks, a slowdown in the work of the "cilia" of the ciliated epithelium, which are normally in constant motion, moving the layer of mucus, bacteria and viruses towards the nasopharynx ...

To mitigate such effects, menthol or eucalyptus is added to some preparations for the common cold, which have a distracting cooling effect. However, such funds bring only subjective improvement, not providing full protection of the mucous membrane and not affecting in any way the production and movement of nasal mucus.

Sea water not only restores and protects the mucous membrane, but also contributes to the maintenance of its normal physiological state. Minerals and trace elements that make up the sea water (zinc, selenium, magnesium, calcium, iodine, etc.), activate the ciliated epithelium and normalize the formation of nasal mucus. As a result, mucus containing bacteria and viruses does not stagnate in the nasal passages, but is removed, along with foreign substances contained in it. Removing microorganisms from the surface of the mucous membrane reduces the risk of inflammation and its spread to neighboring organs - into the middle ear cavity and paranasal sinuses, which are anatomically closely related to the nasal cavity.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion with colds, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis.

To facilitate the outflow of secretions in diseases of the paranasal sinuses.

Adjunctive therapy for otitis media (to eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane).

To facilitate rhinoscopy.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline or other components of the preparation: dryness of the nasal mucosa with the formation of crusts (dry rhinitis);

Transphenoidal hypophysectomy and previous meninges exposure surgery.

Method of administration and dosage

Before using the preparation, you should thoroughly clean the nose.

Adults and children over 12 years old Meralys 0.1% nasal spray 1 injection into each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

The preparation should be used no more than 5 days, unless the doctor recommended a different duration of the course of treatment.

Application of Meralys ® can be restored after several days of interruption.

Before the first use, it is necessary to spray several times (4 times) into the atmosphere to achieve uniformity of dose.

Structure

1 ml of Meralys nasal drops contains xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg.

Excipients: sea water of the Adriatic Sea, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, purified water.
