Pharmacological properties

Normagut helps to restore normal intestinal microflora, has a pronounced etiopathogenetic antidiarrheal effect. when passing through the gastrointestinal tract, saccharomyces boulardii have a biological protective effect relative to the normal intestinal microflora.

The main mechanisms of action of Saccharomyces boulardii:

- direct antagonism (antimicrobial effect) associated with the ability of Saccharomyces boulardii to inhibit the growth of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms and fungi that disrupt the intestinal microbiocenosis, such as Clostridium difficile, Clostridium pneumoniae, Staphilococcus aureus, Cand. , Ecsherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Proteus, and Enthamoeba hystolitica, Lambliae;

- the antitoxic effect is due to the synthesis of proteases that separate the toxin and the enterocyte receptor with which the toxin binds (especially with respect to the cytotoxin A Clostridium dificile);

- antisecretory effect (reduces the secretion of water and salts) due to a decrease in the formation of cAMP in enterocytes;

- strengthening of nonspecific immune protection due to increased production of immunoglobulins and secretory components of immunoglobulins;

- enzymatic activity is due to an increase in the activity of small intestine disaccharidases (lactase, sucrose, maltase);

- trophic effect on the mucous membrane of the small intestine due to the release of spermine and spermidine.

The genetically determined resistance of Saccharomyces boulardii to the action of antibiotics makes it possible to use them simultaneously with antibiotics to protect the normal microbiocenosis of the gastrointestinal tract.

After taking Normagut, a high concentration of Saccharomyces boulardii in the large intestine is quickly achieved, which persists for a day. Saccharomyces boulardii does not enter the systemic circulation and mesenteric lymph nodes. After the end of treatment, Saccharomyces boulardii is completely excreted in the feces for 3-5 days.

Indications

Acute infectious (bacterial, viral etiology) diarrhea in children and adults; prevention and treatment of diarrhea and colitis caused by antibiotic therapy; prevention and treatment of pseudomembranous colitis and recurrent diseases caused by clostridium difficile; irritable bowel syndrome; prevention of diarrhea with prolonged enteral nutrition.

Application

The capsules are taken orally, swallowed whole and washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid (1 glass of drinking water). for children under 6 years of age, open the capsule and pour its contents into 50 ml of water at room temperature (20–25 ° C).

For the prevention of diarrhea in adults and children over the age of 12 - 1 capsule 1-2 times a day. Children aged 2-12 years: 1 capsule 1-2 times a day.

For the prevention of diarrhea during travel: 5 days before departure, adults and children over 12 years old - 1 capsule 1-2 times a day, children aged 2-12 years - 1 capsule a day.

For the prevention of diarrhea during treatment with antibiotics and sulfonamides, the preparation is used simultaneously with antibiotics and sulfonamides from the first day of antibiotic therapy and a few more days after its completion. Adults and children over the age of 12 years - 2 capsules 2 times a day, children aged 2-12 years - 1 capsule 2 times a day.

For the treatment of acute diarrhea, adults and children over the age of 2 years are prescribed 1-2 capsules per day for 4-7 days (250-500 mg).

In case of diarrhea caused by tube feeding, the contents of 3 capsules (750 mg) in 1.5 liters of solution for enteral nutrition are added daily (the composition of the solution and the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the patient's condition and laboratory parameters).

Overdose

Treatment: gastric lavage, the use of activated charcoal and / or symptomatic therapy.
